On masterplanning projects, our first aims are to fully understand the potential of the site, and our clients’ unique requirements. Our process of discovery begins with an analysis of the site, in terms of the physical, social and technical opportunities and constraints. Alongside this, we rigorously analyse client objectives and those of key stakeholders. This knowledge becomes the focus of our design process and is crucial to forming a robust criterion for a successful, long-term vision.
We incorporate the knowledge garnered from our initial process of discovery into the development of a brief which carefully identifies an approach to spatial and organisational requirements. We outline a roadmap, future proofing the design through the identification of project priorities, whilst providing our clients with a strategic overview, covering operational needs and wider business ambitions.
Every masterplan is unique – and must respond to distinctive opportunities and constraints and varying stakeholder requirements, all of which are grounded within a given place and community. Our approach to master planning maintains this premise as a driving force – creating a process of wider collaboration in the interest of reconciling varied interests and individual project drivers.
We work with incumbent stakeholders, prospective operators, and end-users, understanding their business needs, organisational structure, and ambitions, ensuring they are captured and understood. This knowledge helps us to provide strategic advice to our client in the context of their site, to facilitate certainty in their decision-making.
An important part of any masterplanning project is the ability to iterate and compare value on multiple propositions. We design to prioritise building performance and user experience and deliver a successful response to placemaking and quality. Throughout the design process, we measure the value of alternative propositions and remain flexible to changing requirements over time. We know that expectations can, and should, be challenged and react to changing situations. A responsive approach is key to success.
Our master planning is informed by a creative team that has genuine and broad insight into placemaking. We emphasise creative and imaginative planning and design, informing proposals that succeed over time and result in a successful development.
