Franklin Ellis Architects was appointed by Mountsorrel War Memorials Trust and Mountsorrel Parish Council to provide a design for the Memorial Centre. A new building for the community that replaces an existing well used facility that no longer met the demands of the growing village. The new building comprises of an auditorium/hall space with stage facilities, a café, meeting and conference rooms, hospitality space and with two independent retail units on the ground floor. The name of the Memorial Centre, and the building it replaced, honours the local men who lost their lives at war. A local slate plaque engraved with the names of the fallen is prominently position in the main entrance reception. The building, located in the village centre, is a strong symbol for the community providing a fantastic venue for local residents and events.
Featuring a front façade of local pink Mountsorrel granite and glass under a sweeping tiered roof, the contemporary design of the building reinterprets the local traditional building methods and materials.
