Franklin Ellis were appointed as Interior Designers by Castlebridge Group to design 104 guestrooms and public areas for IHG Indigo Hotel. The hotel, situated in the heart of historic Exeter, is a conversion of a former House of Fraser store.
Our designers created several room concepts, based on the history and heritage of the surrounding area, and created bespoke guest rooms and a new Front of House and dining area. Inspired by the rich and varied history of the city, the unique style and character of the interior design reflects three local neighbourhood stories based on Exeter’s magnificent Cathedral; the fascinating story of ‘The House that Moved’ and a narrative about the famous Colson’s Department Store run in 1789 by the pioneering Mrs Colson.
The Hotel front of house consists of three bars, a Spa and fitness suite. THE DUGOUT sports bar located in the basement of the building, THE RETREAT SPA and BEKETTS BAR situated on the top floor with breathtaking panoramic views of Exeter, and COLSON Bar and Grill on the ground floor level, welcoming guests into the hotel.
The characterful ‘The Colson’ narrative has been woven throughout the reception area and comes to life in the COLSON Bar & Grill, which provides a private dining room and an open cooking area showcasing the talents of chef Charlotte Vincent.
