We’ve Achieved B Corp Certification

Achieving B Corp certification is an important moment for Franklin Ellis. It reflects not only the standards we meet as a business, but the principles that continue to shape how we operate, make decisions, and measure success. In an environment where accountability and impact matter more than ever, certification provides a clear and independent benchmark for the way we work.

Our decision to pursue B Corp status sits alongside our transition to an Employee-Owned Trust, reinforcing a long-term approach to responsible practice. Together, these frameworks support a business model that prioritises people, purpose, the environment and positive contribution, while pushing us to remain transparent and accountable. B Corp is a natural fit for our ethos as we constantly look to the evolution of our practice and we are delighted to be part of this global movement for change.

A Framework for Reflection and Progress
The certification process offered the opportunity to step back and take a detailed look across the practice. From governance and operational processes to environmental responsibility and employee engagement, the assessment encouraged us to examine not just what we do, but how and why we do it.

While many of our existing systems already aligned strongly with B Corp principles, the process highlighted areas where refinement was possible. In some cases, this meant formalising practices that were already in place; in others, it prompted meaningful changes to strengthen our approach and better track the impact of our actions. We truly believe that the B Corp application and certification process has given us the opportunity to step back, take a detailed look at our existing practices, and thoughtfully refine what we do for the benefit of the business.

Raising Standards, Not Maintaining Them
Certification brings increased expectations and a more detailed level of scrutiny. Meeting these evolving requirements reflects our commitment to progress rather than complacency. We see this as an essential part of responsible business, responding to higher standards with openness, adaptability, and a willingness to improve.

This process has helped reinforce the importance of continual learning across the practice and has strengthened our resolve to embed social and environmental responsibility into everyday decision-making.

Responsibility Within the Built Environment
As an architectural practice, we recognise the influence our work has beyond the immediate scope of each project. The built environment plays a critical role in shaping communities, addressing climate challenges, and supporting long-term wellbeing. With that comes a responsibility to consider both present needs and future impact.

Our ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact, supporting social equity, and engaging positively with communities remains central to our work. B Corp certification provides an external framework to help guide, measure, and challenge that commitment.

Looking Forward
Certification is not a conclusion, but a continuation. It marks progress made so far while reinforcing the need to keep moving forward as expectations evolve. We are proud to become part of the B Corp community and committed to building on this foundation as we continue to develop as a responsible, employee-owned practice.
