The Barnum: A new landmark for Nottingham’s Southside

Franklin Ellis are thrilled to announce the completion and opening of The Barnum, a residential development that we have designed and delivered for our client Grainger PLC. The Barnum is located next to Nottingham Midland Station, within the Station Conservation Area, and is part of the emerging Southside regeneration.
The Barnum offers 347 high-quality apartments of various sizes and layouts, with a range of amenities for the residents, such as a lounge, a gym, a private dining room, and a commercial unit. The building also features a split ground floor with a mezzanine level, and a lower ground car park level.
The design of The Barnum reflects the industrial heritage of the site, with a brick and metal facade that complements the historic station building. The building also creates a new public realm with high quality paving and tree planting, as well as a new connection to Nottingham Station’s Platform 7.

The high quality brief that Grainger set us means that The Barnum is one of the first buildings in the Midlands to achieve TM59 compliance, meeting the new thermal comfort criteria for residential buildings. The building also meets the latest fire safety standards, with a fully non-combustible facade and roof with this progressive scheme taking huge steps towards a building and process aligning with the Building Safety Act.
The Barnum is a landmark project for us and for Nottingham, as it showcases our expertise in delivering high-quality residential schemes that enhances the urban fabric and the quality of life for the residents. We are proud to have been involved in this project from start to finish, and we look forward to seeing The Barnum become a vibrant and successful community.
