Profile

A collaborative practice with more than 30 years of experience.

Franklin Ellis was established in 1993 by David Franklin and Andrew Ellis and has grown into a multidisciplinary architecture and interior design practice working across the UK.

From our studios in Nottingham and Leicester, our team brings together architects, interior designers and technologists with experience across a broad range of sectors and project types.

In 2022, Franklin Ellis became an Employee-Owned Trust, giving our people a genuine stake in the practice and its future. That shared ownership reflects the collaborative culture we have always valued, encouraging everyone to contribute ideas, take responsibility and play a part in our continued success.

Our approach is straightforward: understand the brief, ask the right questions and work collaboratively to find the strongest solution.

Every project is different, but our ambition remains the same: to create places that are thoughtful, well resolved and valuable to the people who commission, use and experience them.

That ambition is underpinned by a set of shared values that shape how we work, how we treat one another and the relationships we build with our clients.

Our Values

Collaborative

We believe the best outcomes come from working together, sharing ideas and learning from one another. We foster a culture of trust and respect, where everyone is encouraged to contribute, collaborate openly and play an active part in our shared success.

Forward-thinking

We are always looking ahead, encouraging continuous learning and embracing new ideas, technologies and ways of working. We apply our knowledge to create thoughtful, sustainable and accessible designs that respond to changing needs and deliver lasting value.

Creative

We are passionate about design and the positive impact it can have. We encourage our team to think creatively, challenge assumptions and confidently explore new possibilities, bringing fresh ideas and thoughtful solutions to every project we undertake.

Supportive

We create an open and supportive environment where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, asking questions and learning from experience. By supporting one another and building relationships based on trust, we help individuals develop while strengthening the team as a whole.

Good design starts with understanding

Every project begins by listening: to our clients, to the people who will use the space and to the character of the place itself.

From new buildings and major regeneration projects to sensitive transformations of existing places, we bring together creativity, experience and practical thinking to turn ambitious ideas into places with lasting value.

Our approach is collaborative from the outset. We challenge ideas when it improves the outcome, solve problems together and stay focused on what matters most, creating exceptional places and delivering them well.

Collaborative by nature

The best projects are rarely the result of one voice.

We work openly with clients, consultants, contractors and communities, bringing the right people into the conversation at the right time. Within our own studio, ideas are shared across disciplines and experience levels, creating stronger solutions and a genuine sense of collective ownership.

Collaboration isn’t an additional part of our process. It is how we work.

Forward thinking - designing for what comes next

Buildings need to perform today and remain relevant tomorrow.

At Franklin Ellis we combine established experience with new ideas, evolving technology and a continual focus on better ways to design and deliver projects. Sustainability, accessibility and long-term value are considered throughout the design process rather than treated as separate ambitions.

The result is architecture that responds intelligently to its context while looking confidently to the future
