Refurbishment of W and S Buildings

Refurbishment of W and S Buildings
Loughborough University

The project involved the internal refurbishment of two 1960s buildings on the Loughborough University campus. The accommodation houses sciences, engineering and architecture, comprising over 17,000 sq.m. on three floors.

The refurbishment has created new accommodation including laboratories, teaching spaces, lecture theatres, workshops, student study areas and ancillary office space.

The project was complicated because it was carried out over a number of phases, whilst the buildings remained in occupation. The team worked closely with Loughborough University to develop appropriate decant and fire strategies for the duration of the work.

The work also had to be carefully co-ordinated with the installation of new glazing throughout both buildings, carried out under a separate contract.

The refurbishment of W and S Buildings is FEA’s third recent project for Loughborough University, following on from the Advanced Technology Innovation Centre and the Towers Dining Room. Franklin Ellis provided both architectural and interior design services for the scheme.
