St Michael-on-the-Mount Opens

July 26th, 2012

The former church of St Michael-on-the-Mount Lincoln has opened its doors to a new future.  After twelve months of restoration and conversion works, the 158 year old building has successfully opened as boutique hotel accommodation linked to the successful Old Palace hotel.

Working with Gelder Group contractors and a team of craftsmen, Franklin Ellis have designed and overseen St Michael’s being sensitively brought back into use.  Providing 16 very individual rooms and guest meeting spaces, the new ‘Lodge’ complements the well-appointed guest rooms and facilities at the Old Palace.

Period interiors with leaning towards modern comforts were designed by Franklin Ellis Interiors.  Each room has an individual theme playing on the architectural heritage of each space.  Working within the confines of the existing building proved a real challenge, but the constraints have been used to inspire the interior design.  Sumptuous fabrics, bold wall coverings and rich hardwoods provide a warm and relaxing twist on classical Victorian theme.

Nestling under the walls of Lincoln Cathedral with wonderful views over the city, the former church is very much a piece of the ancient centre of Lincoln.  Everyone is delighted that a sustainable use has been found for this Lincoln landmark, and the future of the building is secured.  With grateful thanks to the extensive group of people involved, Franklin Ellis wish the project every success.
