Code Level 5 Whiteford Drive Wins National Green Apple Environment Award.
The Green Apple Environment Awards, run by The Green Organisation, recognise eco-friendly initiatives and efforts in sustainability.
The £2.2m affordable housing development in Kettering, designed by Franklin Ellis Architects for LHA-ASRA, comprises of 18 highly sustainable family homes across three sites. The new properties benefit from a number of eco-technologies such as photovoltaic panels, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, harvesting and high levels of insulation. The scheme also embraces the wider Ecological element of the Code for Sustainable Homes by designing-in features for the positive enhancement of the site ecology, such as enhanced landscaping and bird and bug boxes.
Michele Walker, Programme Delivery Manager at LHA-ASRA, said: “Winning top prize at the Green Apple Environment Awards highlights the built quality of Whiteford Drive. Transforming disused land into affordable family homes is a real boost for the area. By incorporating eco-friendly elements into the build, we have brought long-term benefits to residents including lower energy costs.”
